Infectious Mononucleosis and its Medical Treatment

Infectious mononucleosis is an oral disease caused by a contagious virus. This infection can be transmitted orally only. It is not only found ion adults but also diagnosed in a number of children. However, this disease is easily identified in adults than young children.

EBV:

The syndrome for infectious mononucleosis was identified by Nil Filatov in 1887 and later by in 1889 by Emil Pfeiffer. The virus responsible for infectious mononucleosis is known as Epstein-Barr virus or EBV. It can transfer orally. This disease is also popularly known as kissing disease or glandular fever.

Diagnosis:

This disease is found all over the world. However, the majority of people suffered from infectious mononucleosis are from North America. The person with the infected virus can be diagnosed with help of blood cell's investigation. 90% of people affected by infectious mononucleosis are from ages 35 to 40. However, 10% patients of infectious mononucleosis are children. With the help of symptoms and signs this disease can be easily diagnosed on elder people. However, in case of children, there are no evident symptoms, and they may spend their whole lives with a virus of infectious mononucleosis.

Treatment:

The disease of infectious mononucleosis can be treated if diagnosed properly. Some treatments available for this infection include:

Self care:

Infectious mononucleosis can be self treated and reduce with the passage of time. However, in case of extreme conditions one might need rest. A person can resume his activities when the infection is controlled. However, one should not practice extreme activities like heavy sport etc. This can cause rupture of Splene.

Medical treatment:

In case of Infectious mononucleosis, people can use a medicine like ibuprofen. This will help to reduce pain and fever of the body. This medicine is an anti-inflammatory and anti steroid based medicine. However, in acute condition people can use steroid base medicines to reduce the infection.

Latest medication for mononucleosis:

The medicine for mononucleosis is introduced known as valacyclovir, which can eliminate the virus of Epstein Barr. It is recommended in case of high infections caused by a virus. In case of Infectious mononucleosis, antibiotics are not recommended by the physician. These medicines have shown contradiction with such infection diseases.

As Infectious mononucleosis is easily diagnosed due to visible oral symptoms in elder, this infection can be treated easily. However, people with this infection should take precautions to prevent the transmission of this infection. They should avoid spitting saliva and oral contact, especially in case of a couple.
