Go Through the Infection Control System
June 8th 2011
Infection control authority is related to infection and healthcare related with infection. It is vital part of health care. Infection control is related with all aspects of infection, including setting health care, propagation of infection, prevention, monitoring infection and investigation of infection.
Infection:
First of all, people should know what infection is. There are numbers of microbes present in our environment. Most of the microbes are safe and unable to cause disease. However, there are microbes, which can cause diseases and can affect health of a body badly. These microbes are also called as pathogen or infectious agent and condition caused by these agents is called infection.
Types of infection:
There are different types of infections, which include:
Contagious Infections:
This type of infection can be transmitted from one person to others. Such infections are contagious in nature. Such infections can be spread in the form of an epidemic. US health service has a separate division for prevention of such infection called as CDC.
Nosocomial Infections:
The infections which are caused due to contact with healthcare facilities and hospitals are called as Nosocomial infections. The ratio of such infection is 5% in US. This infection can be acquired by other patients or staff of hospitals.
Source of Infection:
The basic source of infections is microbes. These microbes can be transmitted by infected animals and humans as well as equipment infected with these microbes is source of infection. In hospitals, these microbes are transmitted from patients and staff. However, there are also numbers of sources, which can transmit infection in daily life. Public transport, ATM Machines, public places are reservoirs for infectious agents.
Transmission of infection:
The transmission of infection varies from virus to virus. Like some virus can be spread easily like that of influenza, leprosy, etc. However, some virus need blood contact for transmission like that of HIV, hepatitis, etc.
The main methods for transmission of infections include:
Contact:
The infection can transmit by contact of an infectious body. Contact can be either direct or indirect. Physical transmission of infection takes place with help of direct contact. However, indirect transmission of infection involves the contact of contaminated objects to a healthy body.
Droplet transmission:
In droplet transmission, the microbes are transferred to membranes of nose, mouth or eyes of a person.
Vector transmission:
When infection is transmitted by animals and insects, it is called vector transmission. Dengue fever is one such type of infection transmission.
New Breakthrough in infection control:
Professor AdamMcCluskey along with his team in Australia has developed two molecular compounds, which can restrict the role of protein Clathrin. Clathrin is material which aid infectious virus to invade the body, with help of molecular compound Clathrin would not be able to assist virus to spread infection and will play major role in infection control.
